Peter Canavan was among the peaceful protestors at Croke Park today. A small minority – Canavan not among them – made their way inside, holding a banner behind several officials, including GAA president Jarlath Burns, leading to the adjournment of Congress.
Speaking ahead of the Kildare v Meath clash, Canavan was asked to clarify his role today and what he witnessed.
"As a past player I was more than happy to be there," he said. He speaks of his "disapproval" of the Allianz sponsorship before outlining the march from Gill's pub on the corner of Jones' Road to Croke Park where there were a number of speakers and support for the protest."
"We have an opportunity as an association to do the right thing. I have no doubt if this finical sponsorship was not as huge as it is, they (GAA) would have dropped them.
"There is a moral responsibility. I accept that the commercial responsibility is massive."
