Canada's Rachel Homan won an Olympic bronze medal after defeating Tabitha Peterson of U.S. 10-7 on Saturday at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
The teams exchanged singles through the first five ends, but Homan and her Ottawa-based rink of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes scored three points in both the sixth and eighth ends to take an 8-5 lead into the ninth end.
Peterson responded with slash shot to score a deuce, cutting her deficit to one point heading into the 10th end. However, the American skip wrecked on a guard with her last shot in the final end to secure the Canadian victory.
The top-ranked Homan struggled early in round-robin play before reeling off five wins ahead of a semifinal loss to Sweden's Anna Hasselborg.
It's the first time that Canada has reached the Olympic podium in women's curling since Jennifer Jones won gold at the 2014 Sochi Games.
It marks Homan's first Olympic medal in her third appearance at the Winter Games. She finished sixth at Pyeongchang 2018, and fifth in mixed doubles at Beijing 2022.
Sweden's Hasselborg will face Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni in the gold-medal match on Sunday (5 a.m. ET, CBC Gem).
