Cindy Crawford breaks silence on son Presley Gerber’s death at 27
Kaia Gerber shared a tribute to her brother, saying, ‘this party sucks so bad without you, prez’
Cindy Crawford has spoken out about the death of her son, Presley Gerber, at age 27.
Nearly a month after Presley died September 20 of a suspected overdose, Crawford shared a tribute to him on Instagram on Sunday that was co-signed with Presley’s father, Rande Gerber, and sister, Kaia Gerber.
With a black-and-white picture of Presley, the family wrote: “We are beyond heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother.
“We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years,” the post continued. “He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability.”
The post concluded: “We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain. Til we meet again our sweet boy. We love you forever, Mom, Dad and Kaia.”
In addition to the family’s statement shared on Crawford’s page, Kaia shared her own tribute to her brother on Instagram on Sunday.
“I love you the bluest, to the moon and back and back again, forever big brother,” the actor shared in the post, which included a childhood video and picture of her and Presley together.
Kaia went on to say, “I don’t have the words” to address “the magnitude of losing you.”
“You know how much I loved being your sister. It has always been, and will forever be, my favorite thing about myself,” she said. “I came into this world with a white-knuckle grip around you. I had more love for you than I knew what to do with. And now that it has nowhere obvious to go, I’m certain it’s going to swallow me whole.”
She continued: “To say loving you was the easiest thing in the world would imply that it required any effort at all. I was born loving you. I will die loving you. There was never anything else.”
Kaia went on to say that she “would walk knowingly toward this grief if it meant that on the other side of it I got to be your sister.”
“My darling brother, I do adore you,” she wrote. “I love my brother. My brother is dead. And this party sucks so bad without you, prez.”
Presley was open about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues in the years before his death. In March, he posted a video of himself using experimental drug Ibogaine in a drug withdrawal treatment in Cancun, Mexico.
He captioned the post, in part, “letting go of control didn’t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why I was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, I started finding my way back to myself.”
“Praying it’s the last time I have to come back,” he wrote. “Next time I’d like to choose.”
