President Donald Trump said during a White House event on Wednesday that he has done a bad job promoting his economic record in his latest attempt to bolster support ahead of the midterms.

"I've done a very bad job of explaining how good the country is doing," Trump told a supportive crowd at a Hispanic Heritage Month event at the White House. "The country's doing better than it has ever done."

Many American voters increasingly give Trump low marks in public opinion polls for his management of the economy, which has been buffeted by his global tariff policies and a war on Iran that sent energy prices soaring.

Trump is set to launch a 32-day campaign blitz through states including Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio to support Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections that determine control of Congress.

"We're not getting the word out," Trump added, referring to what he considers his strong stewardship of the economy. "I'm going out because nobody's selling it. We're doing an extremely poor job of promotion, and an extremely great job of running the country. But we'll get the word out. It should not be hard."
